Art Server | RiFID | Touchable servicesFor most of the people, art is
expensive. So you have only the possibility to look at it in the gallery, by a
poster, or find a low pix picture on the internet. But what if we can make a
system that makes it possible to se the art, and then send it home to your own
place, or even more interesting, to send it to a friend, loved ones or family.
Like a present, or something that you want to share, a special picture that you
think would be interesting for your girlfriend.
![]() ![]() ![]() Scenario The RIFID contains a unique ID number in the form of a URL. The ID is linked to a pre-filed database containing digital replications of graphic artwork in low resolution and popular screen size formats. Digital artwork suited for screen-based media and sound is also possible. The artist and the gallery pay a certain fee to a company , Acme Art Server. That provide this service. The artist may provide the digital files, or a photographer form Acme Art Server reproduces them in advance. Based on how many visitors that actually buys , digital replications the gallery and artist get a percentage. The sales will then be based on the visitors numbers. And the art will contains its "exclusive status even in a digital version. To access the database the customers (Sender) only need to activate the RIFID phone, and press ok to access the url. Then the user is presented to an option in selecting the receiver of the art. To simplify selecting receivers, a pre-filled address-book could be used in a small mobile-phone GUI made in the web-server. The receiver do not have to be registered in advance, and all costs are billed the Sender. The Sender has to be registered to use this service, and billing may be done via Pay-pal /Visa. Mail addresses or instant messaging will then be used to deliver the art, and the receiver will confirm the message and be forwarded to an url with the art content. This content may then be bookmarked for later use until the expiration date of the art deal. Fullscreen option on the web-browser is a clearly advantage, and also a dedicated screen / projector for this use. The screen based mediums low resolution will not represent a risk of printed replications larger than 25% of the screen image (only a few cm, suitable for printed press coverage) How the pilot-project was done A simple php server was put up with the help of my server provider. The receivers "frame" was logged into this url: http://skjelvik.com/a/v.php?i=1 using Opera Softwares Browser due to its full screen capabilities. The RIFID tags that was placed on the physical work of art in the gallery contained the following urls: http://skjelvik.com/a/s.php?i=1&b=1 http://skjelvik.com/a/s.php?i=1&b=2 http://skjelvik.com/a/s.php?i=1&b=3 http://skjelvik.com/a/s.php?i=1&b=4 http://skjelvik.com/a/s.php?i=1&b=5 http://skjelvik.com/a/s.php?i=1&b=6 http://skjelvik.com/a/s.php?i=1&b=7 (Default screen, blank) When the RIFID phone was held near the tag, a url loaded on confirm, and the "transaction" was done. To test the demo open two browser windows. One to represent the "frame" the other to represent the RIFID phone and the tag. When the tags url are loaded in browser window 2, the browser window 1 will update the art file. Note that to do this simple test we had to make frame 1 update every 20 second.
